MPEG is a format
that is particularly suited for delivering movies over the Web.
Viewing PlanetPoint MPEGs requires a PowerMac, Pentium PC, or
workstation. 16 MB of RAM is a minimum requirement, with 32
MB+ recommended for best results.
PlanetPoint
movies may be viewed from within your browser using an inline
player on the movie page. Please press the play button on
your viewer after the download is complete. If you do not
have a viewer configured, you will be prompted to download
one.
An ISDN or
better connection will speed downloads, which run approximately
2 MB for a 30 second spot. Approximate Download Times for
a 30 second spot: T-1: 30 seconds or less; DSL 384: 1 minute;
ISDN: 3.5 minutes; 56k modem: 10 minutes. Download times may
vary due to network conditions.
Note: As of May 2000, all new PlanetPoint Movies are
now in QuickTime format. Please see our QuickTime
Information and Downloads page for more information
Here
are some free software MPEG viewers that we recommend:
Macintosh: Netscape and Internet Explorer
QuickTime
QuickTime automatically installs all the elements your PowerMac
needs to view PlanetPoint movies. Simply download the small
installer from Apple's web site. While still connected to
the internet, launch the installer and follow the instructions
to download and install QuickTime on your computer. Netscape
2+ and Internet Explorer 3+ will be updated and ready to play
PlanetPoint movies. With this release of QuickTime, you may
choose from a basic or a full installations. A basic installation
is all that is required.
Note: Internet Explorer 4x will not play PlanetPoint
MPEGs with QuickTime. Please upgrade to the latest Internet
Explorer for Macintosh. IE 4x will play the new PlanetPoint
QuickTime content without difficulty.
If you run into any problems, feel free to contact us at info@planetpoint.com.
Macintosh: AOL
Please upgrade to the latest version of AOL.
You may follow the instructions for installing QuickTime and
the browser plug-in above or you may use AOL to connect to
the Internet and then launch Netscape or Internet Explorer
to browse PlanetPoint. AOL tip: Click on the "Prefs"
button in the AOL Web browser, and deselect "use image
compression" button. You will now be able to see PlanetPoint
images in full color.
The Sparkle MPEG player will not play PlanetPoint
movies.
Windows: Internet Explorer
Windows Media Player for Windows 95 and NT.
A full install of Internet
Explorer
should automatically give you Microsoft's player. If you are
having difficulty playing movies, you may also download the
latest version of the Windows
MediaPlayer.
Windows:
Netscape
There is currently no free browser plugin available for Windows
Netscape that will play PlanetPoint movies. Users that have
previously downloaded the Intervu player may continue to use
that application. FastView
from Netzip ($29.95) will play MPEG files in Netscape
along with a number of other formats.
Windows: AOL
Please upgrade to the latest version. AOL uses
a modified version of Internet Explorer and will use either
ActiveMovie or the new Windows MediaPlayer to play PlanetPoint
movies.
